For Christian believers that is gloriously true; Christ is their substitute and because of him they are free for evermore. Peter longs that his readers will experience two great things: grace and peace. In New Testament Greek, grace is charis. It means a gracious favour or benefit bestowed, and at the same time it also means the gratitude (or grateful thanks) appropriate to the grace received. In the New Testament it refers to God’s sovereign kindness at work:
